I’m so fortunate to have had such an AMAZING grandmother on my father’s side. I am the baby of 26 grandchildren. My father had 7 sisters and 1 brother. ALL of my aunts picked cotton and usually they would be barefoot according to my dad’s recollection. My grandmother was 45 when my father was born. My grandmother was born in 1885 just 20 years after the civil war! She was wonderful and I studied her every mannerism. I watched how hard she worked and how quiet she was. She was a “force of nature” and softly commanding. She taught all her daughters the education is the key to happiness. With her egg money she was able to help most of her daughters get into college. The majority of her granddaughters also learned the value of getting a college degree. They say “knowledge is power” and “your education never expires”. I’m lucky to know exactly where she is buried and I visit her just as often as I can.
