How to explain why you are a vegan…

Compassion and empathy for all sentient beings, is the universal language of the heart.

When I was 14 in 1969 I figured out what chicken was and hamburgers and hotdogs. I quickly picked up a jar of peanut butter and a carrot and told my parents I was a vegan.

In November 1944, a British woodworker named Donald Watson announced that because vegetarians ate dairy and eggs, he was going to create a new term called “vegan,” to describe people who did not.

If you stand with your pet calf “Rosie” next to a human who has a beautiful dog named “Rover” on a leash and ask “What is the difference between your pet dog and my pet calf?” The human will look perplexed… then softly say: “You ate my calf’s mother last night for dinner.”

We seldom regard the meat on our plate as the animal from which it came. Next time you cook and eat a burger, try putting a photo of a cow in front of you. At the very least, say a prayer of thanks for the sentient being who gave their life so you could enjoy your McDonalds 💕
